Big Thicket National Preserve
Big Sandy Creek Unit - "Beaver Slide Trail"
This trail is approximately 1.5 miles long. It meanders around a series of ponds formed by beaver dams.
The trail provides access to Big Sandy Creek and several excellent fishing ponds. There are many birds and much wildlife (deer, raccoons) along the trail.
Ninety per cent of the winding trail is shaded by the forest canopy. This may be the most primeval feeling area in Polk County. Bring some insect repellant.
